Introducing Tuyen Lam Lake, Da Lat
Tuyen Lam Lake is one of the three largest lakes in Da Lat, Vietnam. This artificial lake is mainly known through the eco-tourism area surrounding it. Location of Tuyen Lam Lake
Tuyen Lam Lake, as part of the Tuyen Lam Eco-Tourism Area, is located on the outskirts of Da Lat city, about 7km away. It’s situated in the direction of Prenn Pass and is only 2km away from Datanla Waterfall. This place is perfect for relaxation, outdoor activities, and camping. Visiting this Lake allows you to immerse yourself in the fresh air and be one with the serene nature of Da Lat’s mountains and forests.
Getting to Tuyen Lam Lake
Contrary to common misconception, getting to the Lake from the city center is quite straightforward. The journey covers about 7km and is entirely paved road, making it safe and easily accessible. Moreover, traffic congestion is not an issue, allowing travelers to move smoothly and quickly.
There are two routes to reach to the Lake:
- Route 1: From Da Lat market, follow Nguyen Van Cu Street. Then proceed onto Ba Trieu Street and turn onto Tran Phu Street. Continue until Le Hong Phong Street, then turn onto Trieu Viet Vuong Street following the signs to Truc Lam Zen Monastery. From there, just turn right and head straight to Tuyen Lam Lake.
- Route 2 (via Prenn Pass): From Da Lat market, cross Ong Dao Bridge, turn onto Tran Quoc Toan Street, and then onto Ho Tung Mau Street. Cross 3/4 Street and descend Prenn Pass. Drive about 3km further to reach Datanla Waterfall. Here, you’ll find signs guiding you to Truc Lam Zen Monastery. Then, continue straight for about 1km to reach the lake.
History of Tuyen Lam Lake
Like any other place in Da Lat, Da Lat Lake has its own unique stories, adding to the mystique of this poetic land.
In fact, Tuyen Lam Lake originates from the Tia stream, which was near the current lake area. It wasn’t until the 1930s that Mr. Faurraut, a French farmer, discovered this place and transformed it into a natural resort he owned. By 1987, as the country entered a period of new development, the Lam Dong Hydraulic Company built a dam across the Tia stream, forming Tuyen Lam Lake. The name “Tuyen Lam” translates to “charming gushing water,” perfectly capturing the beauty of this destination.
On August 30, 1998, the Ministry of Culture – Information recognized Lake as a Cultural and Historical Site. Then, on February 15, 2017, the Lâm Đồng Provincial People’s Committee declared Tuyen Lam Lake an officially recognized National-level Tourist Area, solidifying its place as a leading tourist destination in Da Lat.
