A Melancholic Love Story from the War Era Hoàng Tùng had a deep love for a girl named Mai Nương, who lived in the village. On the night before departing for battle, the two of them strolled around the lake, promising to think of each other and remain faithful no matter what happened.
Hoàng Tùng promised that when the first cherry blossom bloomed, he would return. He picked small blossoms and attached them to Mai Nương’s hair, and they admired the blossoms together.
Unfortunately, when the first cherry blossoms began to bloom, Mai Nương received news that Hoàng Tùng had sacrificed his life on the battlefield. Overwhelmed by grief and longing, she threw herself into the river, ending her first love tragically.
In the following spring, with clear skies and gentle clouds, lush green trees, just before the last cherry blossoms fell, Hoàng Tùng returned victoriously. However, he received news that his beloved had already passed away.
Devastated, he also decided to end his life by the lake, wishing to be with his love forever. Their deaths affirmed the everlasting nature of their love.
