If you’re planning a trip to Can Tho, any time of the year is great. Each season has its own unique charm and activities. Can Tho, along with the other 12 provinces in the Mekong Delta, boasts a pleasant climate and is divided into two distinct seasons:
Summer Season: From around May to August. During this time, you can indulge in a variety of fruits as it’s the peak fruit season. The summer weather offers clear blue skies, gentle golden sunshine, and is perfect for boat trips to admire the beauty of the floating markets. Floating Season: From around September to November. If you visit Can Tho during this period, you’ll experience unique activities typical of the Mekong Delta, such as visiting the Cai Rang floating market, having breakfast on boats, observing the bustling market scenes on the river, and enjoying special local delicacies. In summary, the Mekong Delta has its own special allure, regardless of when you visit. You’ll always have delightful experiences and memorable moments!
What to do in Can Tho, Most Captivating Hangouts in the Western Capital
Con Son Islet
Con Son Islet is the most famous eco-tourism destination in Can Tho, resembling a secluded island nestled amidst the Hau River. It’s approximately 8 km from the city center, and you can reach it by taking a 5-minute ferry ride at a cost of around 5,000-10,000 VND per person.
This eco-tourism zone is divided into various sections, each offering unique activities for tourists. You can explore the flying snakehead fish area, the orchard area, and even participate in making traditional cakes. During my previous visit to Can Tho, I had the chance to see flying snakehead fish, savor delicious grilled and hotpot snakehead fish meals, and relax on hammocks by the pond. The experience of making traditional miti leaf cakes was also a highlight. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Con Son Islet—it’s not only fun and exciting, but also provides a sense of familiarity that you’ll cherish!
Phong Dien Floating Market
Similar to other floating markets in the Mekong Delta, Phong Dien Floating Market operates from midnight until morning, usually starting around 3-4 AM and continuing until 7-8 AM. The best time to visit is early in the morning (around 6-8 AM) when the market is at its liveliest.
Visiting Phong Dien Floating Market allows you to immerse yourself in the fruit-rich culture of the Nine Dragon River Delta. Amidst the serene river scenery, you can savor various fresh fruits like watermelon, mango, rambutan, and more. This experience will be one of the most memorable moments of your Can Tho trip.
Cai Rang Floating Market
When in Can Tho, you mustn’t miss out on the Cai Rang Floating Market—one of the most fascinating attractions in the city. To explore this market, you can take a boat from Cai Rang Wharf or a tourist boat from Ninh Kieu Wharf. The best time to visit is in the morning (between 6-8 AM) when the market is bustling with boats selling fruits like watermelons, mangos, jackfruits, and various breakfast items like bread, noodles, and coffee.
Visiting Cai Rang Floating Market gives you the opportunity to witness the vibrant trading activities of local people and enjoy the fresh fruits sold right from passing boats. You can also savor a bowl of hot bun rieu (crab noodle soup) and a cup of fragrant Vietnamese coffee while drifting along the river.
Traditional Hu Tieu Noodle Workshop
The traditional Hu Tieu noodle workshops in Can Tho are unique craft villages that you can easily visit when exploring the Cai Rang Floating Market. These villages are conveniently located along the same tourist route. During my Can Tho travel experience, I rented a boat and asked the local boat owner to take me to all three spots: the orchard, the Hu Tieu workshop, and the coconut candy workshop.

Visiting a traditional coconut candy workshop gives you the chance to witness the entire candy-making process, from the initial steps to the final cutting and packaging. Moreover, you can even participate in pouring the candy into molds and cutting the candy into bite-sized pieces. Afterward, you can enjoy the freshly made coconut candies right at the workshop.

A trip to Ba Cong Fruit Garden immerses you in a lush green oasis filled with abundant fruit trees. Amidst the natural beauty, you’ll find yourself surrounded by juicy fruits hanging from branches. Within the garden, you’ll find five small eateries and one large restaurant catering to tourists all day long. You can visit and dine at your convenience. Additionally, you can enjoy activities like cycling along the small paths within the garden and attempting the challenge of walking on a wobbly monkey bridge—a truly enjoyable experience.

One of the renowned nighttime attractions in Can Tho is the Love Bridge (also known as Ninh Kieu Pedestrian Bridge).
